I could see how it can trap people: annual raises and a steady paycheck can be dampening factors in helping you jump ship. Luckily, I was doing freelance work on the side (for free, like how Charlie suggested) and found out the field that I was intrigued with in college was something I liked doing. In doing so, I managed to get a new job doing something I really liked and where I am constantly intellectually stimulated / challenged.

College in three years is a good option to cut down on overall costs. It takes more effort, but hard work is a virtue you need to succeed.

My Dad has always said that one of the best fields to go into if you always want to have a job is the medical industry.

Their services are always in high demand. You can't be sure exactly how much you will make, but at least you can be sure that you will make something rather than nothing.

I personally have chosen not to go that route because it's not where my interests lie, but medicine is perfect for someone who loves it.

I think I can relate to nearly everything Charlie is saying: I started off at a job I didn't really like or was in the right field for, but it did pay a significant amount. I could see how it can trap people: annual raises and a steady paycheck can be dampening factors in helping you jump ship. Luckily, I was doing freelance work on the side (for free, like how Charlie suggested) and found out the field that I was intrigued with in college was something I liked doing.
